Candolim SC blanked SCC Loutolim 3-0 to storm into the quarterfinals of the 52nd Custodio Memorial Football Tournament, held at the Raia Panchayat Ground on Friday.
Candolim took an early lead through Anuj Kutikar, who netted the opening goal. Nikil Naik doubled the advantage in the 9th minute with a well-placed shot. Despite a promising opportunity for SCC Loutolim’s Velroy Fernandes in the 42nd minute, he failed to convert. Just before the break, Nikil Naik struck again, scoring Candolim’s second goal with another precise finish.
The dominance continued into the second half as Chetan Dhobolkar sealed the victory with Candolim’s third goal in the 46th minute.
SCC Loutolim's coach Jose Colaco was actively guiding his side from the sidelines, but it was Candolim SC’s coach, Joe, whose strategy and direction proved decisive in the commanding win.
Nikil Naik was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match, presented by Prakash Dessai, former GFA executive and current secretary of the Cuncolim Educational Institute.
