MARGAO: Carmel Sports Club defeated St. Rock Youth Club Majorda 4–1 to book their place in the quarterfinals of the Mount Carmel Trophy.
The tournament is organised by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Chapel in association with Carmel Sports Club at the Rosary Church Ground.
The match began cautiously, with both sides looking to settle into rhythm. Carmel had an early chance when Richard Costa narrowly missed the target, while St. Rock’s Oscar Braganza came close with a solo effort that sailed over the crossbar after beating the defence and goalkeeper. The teams went into the break locked at 0–0.
Carmel returned with renewed intent in the second half and dominated proceedings. Velington Almeida struck twice in quick succession in the 42nd and 47th minutes, while Travis Souza and Aden Pereira added a goal each in the 35th and 54th minutes respectively.
Lenny Vaz scored the lone goal for St. Rock Youth Club Majorda.
Aden Pereira of Carmel Sports Club was named Player of the Match, with the award presented by Defa Fernandes of Telaulim.
