Classic Football Academy Manipur emerged victorious in the AIFF U-17 Youth League 2023-24, defeating Sudeva Delhi FC 2-1 at the Nagoa Panchayat Sports Complex on Saturday.
The fast-paced match began with both teams aggressively seeking an early lead. However, despite a display of skillful football, neither side managed to find the net in the first half.
Classic Football Academy came out strong in the second half, determined to score. They created numerous chances, but a combination of their own near misses and a resolute Sudeva Delhi FC defense kept them at bay. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 49th minute when Ningthoukhongjam slotted the ball past the rival goalkeeper.
Energized by the goal, Classic Football Academy continued to pressure the Sudeva Delhi FC defense with frequent attacks. Abhongshangbam capitalized on this momentum in the 56th minute, extending their lead to 2-0.
Sudeva Delhi FC refused to give up. They intensified their attacks and managed to pull one goal back through Gauram Kumar in the 60th minute. Despite their efforts, they were unable to equalize, and the final whistle blew with the scoreline at 2-1. Classic Football Academy secured the championship title.
Dr. Caitano Fernandes, President of the Goa Football Association, served as the chief guest and presented the trophies to the winners and runners-up. Anthony Pango (Senior Vice President, Goa Football Association South Goa) and GFA Executive members Anthony Leo Fernandes (alias Mam) and Ravi Cabral were also present at the ceremony.
