Debutants Vasco United FC held Benfica Youth Club to a goalless draw to emerge champions of the GFA Third Division League (Mormugao Zone).

The teams put up a spirited fight throughout the match. Vasco United, who were sitting pretty with 9 points, needed a draw to win while Benfica on 7 points needed a win and both teams went all out for a win.

Jason and Johan held the fort for Vasco United while Dheeraj Lamani and Videsh Satardekar shone for Benfica. Vasco United FC and Benfica Youth Club have both qualified for the Second Division for the next season 2023-24.

Dramapur edge past Goa Velha to reach SFs
Dramapur Sports Club edged past Goa Velha Sports Club by a solitary goal to enter the semifinals of the 25th Holy Cross inter-village football tournament.

The teams played attacking football in the first half but failed to score. In the opening minutes of the 2nd half, Nash Fernandes scored the lone goal of the match as he dribbled past two Goa Velha defenders and slotted the ball into the net. Goa Velha tried to equalise in the dying minutes but their attempts were foiled by the Dramapur goalkeeper. With the win, Dramapur Sports Club entered the semifinals and will play against Arlem Youth Association.

Patrong SC rally to hold Ace SA
Patrong Sports Club were lucky to secure a point against Ace Soccer Academy in their 5th Round match of the GFA Third Division League played on Monday at the Panchayat ground, Chicalim.

Patrong led by a solitary goal scored by Siddharth Chinakannu at half time. The match rose to great heights in the second half as Patrong consolidated their lead through Ivan de Cunha. Ace came back strongly and scored two quick goals through Kingsley Colaco and Wahnaj Lamature.

Ace took the wind out of Patrong sails with Pawan Naik scoring the third to put Ace ahead in the absorbing encounter. It was not done yet as Siddharth Chinakannu brought in the equaliser for Patrong in the 75th minute to earn a point for the team.

GCA U-23 trials on May 16
PANAJI: The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) will conduct open selection trials for under-23 boys for the upcoming BCCI tournaments (2023-24) on May 16 at the GCA Porvorim Ground. The trials will commence at 9.30 am.

To be eligible for the selection trials, players must meet the following criteria: They should be born on or after September 1, 2000; they must be local players as per the guidelines set by the BCCI; they must attend the selection trials dressed in white; they must carry their birth certificate. MCA coaching camp concludes
A valedictory function for MCA's 31st coaching camp was held in Margao. Former Ranji player Nitin Kalekar gave away the certificates to the trainees. Hemant Angle, coach, Ravindra Nevgi, vice-president, and G Shashidhar, senior engineer were present on the occasion. The 21-day camp was attended by 52 students, under the guidance of certified coaches Showmik Angle, Digesh Angle and Nikhil Katkar.

Ponda taluka rapid chess tourney on May 13
Ponda Taluka Chess Association under the auspices of Goa Chess Ad-Hoc committee will organise Ponda Taluka level open rapid chess tournament on May 13 at Wagle High School, Mangeshi. The tournament will start at 9 am. Top 10 in the open category will be awarded with prizes. Also, top 2 prizes will be given in age categories of U7, U9, U11 and U13.
