Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda beat St Anthony SC Assolda 3-2 via a tiebreaker to advance to the semifinals of the 51st Custodio Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Raia Sporting Club and played at Raia Panchayat Ground on Sunday.

Despite heavy rains, the spirit of 1,000 spectators wasn’t dampened as they watched the match between two title aspirants. Velton D’Souza, a midfielder for Fatorda, missed two chances to score in the 8th and 10th minutes as both his powerful shots were saved by Allwyn Faria, the goalkeeper for Assolda. Then, Alton Vaz of Assolda’s glancing header narrowly missed the target. A move by Clencio Pinto of Fatorda to Michael Dias should have resulted in a goal, but the Assolda goalkeeper was equal to the task. Both halves ended in a goalless draw.

In the tiebreaker, Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda scored through Roque Borges, Clencio Pinto and Charles Miranda, while Richard Fernandes and Joaquim Carvalho scored for St Anthony SC Assolda. Jacinta Dias, Panch of Village Panchayat Raia, presented the Man of the Match award to Clencio Pinto of Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda.
