The demolition of the Junta Quarters building in the old Mapusa market has been delayed after one family sought a week to vacate the dilapidated structure.

On June 16, the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) chief officer issued a notice to three families in the building, ordering them to vacate the building within 24 hours.

The notice was issued after the North Goa district collector instructed the MMC to evacuate the residents and seal the building for public safety, as the structure was in a dangerous condition.

While two of the three families vacated their flats, the third family contacted the MMC and requested a week’s time to vacate the flat, and the council accepted the request.

As a result, the process to seal and demolish the building has been delayed.
