Fr Agnel Paroda edged past DBO Fatorda 8-7 in a dramatic penalty shootout after the teams played out a gripping 2-2 draw in regulation time in a thrilling pre-quarterfinal encounter of the 34th Super Soccer Tournament at Benaulim.
Paroda looked in complete control early on, with Kanchan Kori opening the scoring in the 17th minute, followed by Ashwon Fernandes doubling the lead in first-half stoppage time. However, Fatorda mounted a spirited second-half comeback. Cliff Barretto pulled one back in the closing stages, and Edgar Noronha’s injury-time equaliser sent the contest into a tense tiebreaker.
With everything on the line, Fr Agnel Paroda held their nerve from the spot to seal the final quarterfinal berth.
Meviton Barbosa of DBO Fatorda was named Man of the Match and received the trophy from GFA Executive Member Andrew Ferrao.
