MARGAO: A pulsating contest in the Anil Kamat Memorial Tournament, organized by Enfermos Sports Club, ended in dramatic fashion as Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda edged past CAC Sports and Social Club 7-6 via a penalty shootout at the Chinchinim Church Ground.
Fr. Agnelo Youth SC set the tone early with aggressive play. In the 6th minute, Livan Clemente forced a fine save from the CAC goalkeeper. Linson Rebelo followed up with a powerful free kick from just 10 yards out in the 13th minute, but was again denied by a brilliant stop from CAC’s shot-stopper Jovito D’Souza, who proved to be a crucial figure throughout the match with several key saves.
The deadlock was broken in the 38th minute of the second half when Godwin Fernandes of Fr. Agnelo Youth SC slotted home a fine finish off a pinpoint cross by Selton Fernandes, giving his side a 1-0 lead.
CAC responded swiftly. In the 56th minute, Chadwick Furtado equalized with a composed finish, leveling the score at 1-1 and pushing the match into a penalty shootout.
In the tie-breaker, Fr. AgneloYouth SC converted six spot-kicks through Liteson Rebelo, Salvin Fernandes, Alfiano Fernandes, Princen Costa, Alvino Fernandes, and Ravil Fernandes. CAC replied with successful penalties from Alrico Cardozo, Domnic Saures, Chadwick Furtado, Regan Soares, and Salvin D'Mello, but ultimately fell short.
