Pax of Nagoa Sports Club advanced to the quarter-finals of the Goa Police Cup after defeating Churchill Brothers FC Goa 4–2 on penalties following a goalless draw at the Rosary Church ground in Navelim. The match was played at a high tempo, with both sides creating chances. Churchill’s Angom Kinesh Singh saw his effort saved by goalkeeper Aryan Surwade, while Pax forward Adarsh Raj MR missed a late opportunity. In the shootout, Stalen Lucas, Adarsh Raj MR, Beneston Picton Barreto and Shubert Joanus Pereira converted for Pax, while Danish Aribam and Richard Costa scored for Churchill. Stephen Satarkar of Pax was named Player of the Match.

DBO Fatorda make semis grade
MARGAO: Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda reached the semi-finals of the Lourdes Soccer tournament after edging Sao Jose de Areal 6–5 on penalties at Ambelim Ground. Areal took the lead through Bersel Viegas’ free-kick, before Hanslum equalised for Don Bosco just before half-time. The second half ended without further goals. In the shootout, Ashley Andrade, Rahul Sharma, Cayven Araujo, Judson Soares and Adison Dias scored for Don Bosco, while Bersel Viegas, Josley Gomes, Mohamed Manscori and Steven Gomes converted for Areal. Slone Tereza’s effort struck the post, sealing the result. Don Bosco will face Uguem Sports Club in the semi-finals on February 8.

Cuncolim Union set up final with Mandopa
MARGAO: Cuncolim Union defeated Wilred Leisure SC Curtorim 1–0 to reach the final of the All-Goa Inter-Village Football Tournament at the Seraulim Panchayat Ground. Daulat Desai scored the decisive goal four minutes from time. Cuncolim Union will meet Mandopa Sporting Club in the final on February 8. Ryan Fernandes of Wilred Leisure was named Man of the Match.

Spring Boys reach TYC Trophy final
MARGAO: Spring Boys Mandopa qualified for the final of the TYC Trophy Football Tournament after defeating Rosary Youth Club Zorivado 3–0 at Telaulim. Goals by Sam Pereira, Sweden Costa and Travis D’Souza sealed the win. Spring Boys Mandopa will face Santa Cruz Boys Sirvodem in the final on February 8. Sweden Costa was named Man of the Match.

Skating: Universal Goa claim 15 gold
MARGAO: Universal Goa Skating Club won 26 medals at the GSF International Skating Selection Trials, organisers said, emerging as one of the most successful teams at the two-day event. The trials were held from January 31 to February 1 at the SGPDA Ground, Margao as part of the Goa Festival, and drew participants from several Indian States.
Universal Goa, represented by 18 skaters, secured 15 gold, eight silver and three bronze medals. The performance earned the team the runners-up trophy. Officials attributed the results to the preparation and guidance of coach Rajesh Naik, who oversaw the team’s training programme.
Organisers said the trials were a key stage in selecting athletes for upcoming international competitions, and described the strong showing by the host-State club as a notable outcome of the event.

Taekwondo: Holy Cross students shine
MARGAO: Students from Holy Cross Institute, Cavelossim won three medals at a State-level taekwondo tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. Four under-17 girls represented the institute at the competition. Prema won a silver medal in her category, while Pallavi Gaonkar and Anchal Upadhyay secured bronze medals in their respective events. The athletes were trained by physical education teacher Richard Mascarenhas, who guided the team during their preparation.

Mayem Marathon 2026 draws over 1,500 runners
PANAJI: More than 1,500 runners took part in the Mayem Marathon 2026, organisers said, with races held across multiple distance categories for adults and school students. The event was organised by the Shri Mahamaya High-School Ex-Students Association in partnership with mining firm Vedanta Sesa Goa, which has supported the marathon for a third consecutive year.
Participants competed in 21 km, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km races, along with age-group categories for students. Among those present were local legislator Premendra Shet, Deputy General Manager of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation Deepak Narvekar, and Vedanta IOG deputy chief executive Dhirajkumar Jagdish. Organisers said the marathon has grown in scale in recent years and has become a regular feature on the local sports calendar, drawing participants from across Goa.
