The Goa Amateur Boxing Association, under the aegis of the Boxing Federation of India and in association with the Shail Foundation, announced the 1st Goa Shail Foundation U-17 Boys & Girls Invitational Cup Boxing Tournament, which will be held from June 4 to 7 at the Boxing Hall, Peddem, Mapusa.
The tournament will be formally inaugurated on June 4 by Arvind Khutkar, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Goa alongside Rohit Jainendra Jain, Chairman of the Shail Group of Companies, Francis Viegas, President, Goa Amateur Boxing Association and other dignatories.
Francis Viegas, President of Goa Amateur Boxing Association said: “It is a wonderful opportunity to have a tournament of this kind in Goa, that gives exposure to our young Goan boxers. Such platforms are needed, before a boxer competes in a national where competition is fierce.”
This prestigious event will feature 10 inter-state teams, bringing together 135 talented young boxers, including participants from Goa’s own junior boys and girls squads. The tournament aims to serve as a launchpad for India’s next generation of boxing champions, offering vital exposure and competitive experience at the national level.
Through this tournament in Goa, GABA takes forward its vision fostering grassroots development in Indian boxing, both in the ring and in the training halls.
Elevating Coaches alongside athletes in tandem with the tournament, Goa Boxing Association will host a 4-day Practical Coaches Seminar, conducted by Mr. T.L. Gupta, a veteran coach and former Senior NIS Boxing Instructor known for his expertise in modern training techniques. The seminar will run from 10 am to 12.30 pm daily from 4th to 7th June, at the same venue.
Lenny D’Gama, International Technical Official, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the BFI, and key organizer of the seminar, remarked: "We believe that if Indian coaches are regularly trained with the latest techniques and practices, our boxers can consistently shine on the international stage."
The workshop expects to host 30+ coaches from across the country and is designed to enhance coaching standards and keep trainers abreast of modern methods in the sport.
