Goa Police have appointed Micky Fernandes as the new coach of the club.

The 40-year-old former India midfielder joins Goa Police after his tenure as head coach of Vasco Sports Club and leading Hindustan FC to victory in the Delhi League. The young coach performed a miracle of sorts with Penha de France to get them promoted to the GFA First Division.

Fernandes previously played for Dempo Sports Club, Salgaocar FC, Sporting Clube de Goa, Churchill Brothers FC, Mohun Bagan AC, and Air India.

In an interview with The Goan, Fernandes expressed his enthusiasm for taking on the challenge with Goa Police. He outlined his goals for the team, aiming to win the All India Police Cup and to maintain their position in the Goa Professional League. Fernandes, who once represented India under coach Syed Nayeemuddin, emphasised his commitment to a balanced approach between attack and defence, adapting his strategy based on the players’ strengths.

Fernandes also highlighted the support from Suptd of Police South Goa, Sunita Sawant, who played a crucial role in revitalising football in the region. “Sports has always been a symbol of hope and inspiration,” Fernandes said. “The efforts of Suptd Sawant and others have been remarkable, and I am confident that the upcoming league will be filled with joy and excitement.”
