High Court sets aside GCA polls, reschedules elections to Sept 16

PANAJI

The High Court of Bombay at Goa, on Thursday, set aside the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) elections scheduled for August 24 and rescheduled the polls to September 16.

The decision follows a petition filed by Joint Secretary Rupesh Naik and four others, who alleged that the GCA President and Vice President unilaterally fixed the election date without following due procedure.

The petitioners contended that the decision to hold the elections on August 24 was taken in a high-handed manner, bypassing the managing committee.

“There are 107 member clubs under the Association, and the decision to conduct the elections on August 24 was taken without taking the managing committee into confidence,” the petition stated.

The Court, taking note of the submissions, set aside the earlier election date and directed that the polls be held on September 16.
