Sporting Club of Davorlim kicked off the 34th Super Soccer Football Tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cuncolim Union in the tournament’s second match, held at the Benaulim Panchayat Ground.
The decisive moment arrived early, as William Niasso struck in the 4th minute with a sharp finish that caught the Cuncolim defence off guard. With the lead in hand, Davorlim shifted gears, adopting a patient, possession-driven approach to control the tempo and frustrate their opponents.
Cuncolim responded with determination, dominating the second half and launching relentless attacks in search of an equalizer. However, they were repeatedly denied, thanks to the commanding presence of veteran goalkeeper Joaquim Figueredo, who produced several key saves under intense pressure.
Davorlim’s front three – Niasso, Alent Colaco, and the dynamic Melchior Miranda – posed a constant threat on the counter. Miranda, in particular, stood out with his all-round performance, earning him the Man of the Match award, presented by GFA Referees’ Head, Melwin D’Costa.
