MARGAO
Margao SC booked their place in the final of the 17th St. Anthony Festival Cup 2025 with a narrow 1-0 win over United Club of Ambaulim in a tense semifinal clash at the Moll Ground, Assolda, on Friday.
The lone goal of the match came early, as Alfred Noronha struck in the 15th minute with a clever finish that caught the Ambaulim defence off-guard.
Margao SC's Hanslum Furtado led the charge up front, making incisive runs throughout the match, while Joel Barreto impressed with his energy and commitment for United Club of Ambaulim.
One of the game’s turning points came when Alex Fernandes of Ambaulim unleashed a fierce shot that seemed destined for goal — only to be spectacularly cleared off the line by Kevin Araujo, preserving Margao’s narrow lead.
United Club of Ambaulim pushed hard for an equalizer in the second half. Crimson Fernandes came closest with a powerful strike that rattled the crossbar, but luck did not favour the Curchorem side.
Margao SC will now await the winner of the semifinal between Guardian Angel SC, Curchorem and USC Seraulim, with the final set for August 10.
Alfred Noronha was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by Reema Noronha.
