Margao MLA Digambar Kamat inaugurated floodlights at the Dr Rajendra Prasad Stadium in Margao on Saturday night, marking a significant enhancement to the sports infrastructure in the State.
During the event, Kamat highlighted the importance of the floodlight installation for the Margao Cricket Club (MMC), calling it a historic moment for Goa. He reflected on his time as the past treasurer of the club and expressed his satisfaction with the club's achievements. He congratulated the club for successfully installing the floodlights.
In addition, Kamat inaugurated the Late Dinesh Trikannad Gallery, honouring the legacy of the late cricketer and the club's former president.
Yogesh Naik, president of the Margao Cricket Club, emphasised the club’s commitment to developing sports facilities. He mentioned that the project cost Rs 1.2 crores and called for community support to further enhance the infrastructure. Naik noted that the installation of floodlights distinguishes the MMC as the first private club in Goa to host floodlit matches.
Lalita Dinesh Trikannad, the wife of the late Dinesh Trikannad, was also present at the inauguration ceremony.
