Navelim Sporting Club emerged champions of the 16th Davorlim Cup, organised by Sporting Club Davorlim, after defeating Cuncolim Union 2-0 in the final played at the Davorlim Panchayat ground, on Sunday.
Cuncolim Union came close early on when Daulat Dessai unleashed a powerful shot, but the Navelim goalkeeper made a crucial save. At the other end, Ronaldo Pereira narrowly missed the target, as both sides went into halftime locked at 0-0.
Navelim Sporting raised the tempo in the second half and broke the deadlock through Travis Souza. Cuncolim Union had a chance to equalise, but Tushar Gaonkar failed to convert. As the match entered its final stages, Richard Costa sealed the victory with a second goal, confirming Navelim Sporting’s triumph.
Former Goa Chief Minister Churchill Alemao attended as the chief guest and presented the prizes in the presence of Valanka Alemao, Rev. Fr. Domnic Noronha, and other dignitaries and officials.
Among the individual awards, Travis Souza of Navelim Sporting was the first scorer of the final, while Sam Pereira was named Best Forward. Richard Costa took home the Best Half award, Brijesh Shelke of Cuncolim Union was adjudged Best Defender, and Aron Figueiredo of Sporting Club Davorlim was named Promising Player. The Player of the Match award went to Viraj Velip of Cuncolim Union.
