MARGAO: Strong title contenders Parish Youth Nuvem (PY Nuvem) advanced to the quarterfinals of the 14th Super Soccer Inter-Village Football Tournament after defeating Cuncolim Union 3-1 via tiebreaker on Wednesday. The tournament is being organized by UC Benaulim and played at the St. John the Baptist Football Ground.
The match began at a lively pace, with PY Nuvem threatening early through Francis Colaco and Joywin Costa, both coming close to breaking the deadlock. Cuncolim Union had a golden opportunity as well, but Daulat Dessai’s long-range strike was denied by the post. Later, Clifton Fernandes was thwarted by Nuvem goalkeeper Saltan Dias, who pulled off a crucial save.
The second half saw limited goal-scoring chances, with much of the play centered around the midfield. With both sides unable to score in regulation time, the game proceeded to a penalty shootout.
PY Nuvem held their nerve from the spot, converting through Leroy Colaco, Alvito Dias, and Shenoy Colaco. Ansh Patel was the only successful scorer for Cuncolim Union.
Alvito Dias, the standout midfielder for PY Nuvem, was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by Manoj Kesarkar.
