Ritviz wins to stay in hunt for overall title of Goa Chess League

Ritviz Parab won the 10th Goa Online Chess League, organised by Pedne Taluka Chess Association, with 8 points out of 9 rounds. 

FM Nitish Belurkar also scored 8 points but was placed second on tie-break. Parth Salvi was placed third with 7 points.

Ritviz (TB 49.50) overcame the defeat from FM Nitish (TB 49.25) in the tournament with tie-breaker system adopted by tournament platform lichess. With this win, Ritviz remains in contention for winning maximum gold medals in Goa Chess League as he has to win the remaining two league matches to be the leader in the medals tally. After 10 matches, Nitish is leading with 5 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze in the 12-match series organised under the aegis of Goa Chess Association by all the 12 taluka chess associations. Ritviz, with 4 gold and 2 silver is second overall, while Vivaan Ballikar with 1 gold is in third place. Nitish needs one gold to clinch the title. 

The league has become exciting as there is no clear winner overall and the last two matches conducted by Sanguem and Dharbandora will be the decisive rounds.

Mandar Lad, Tanvi Hadkonkar, Aayush Shirodkar, Reuben Colaco, Devesh Naik, Shane Braganca and Vasant Naik were placed 4th to 10th respectively, while Sairaj Vernekar, Joy Kakodkar, Swera Braganca, Yash Upadhye and Vivaan Ballikar took up the 11th to 15th spots.
