MARGAO
Despite some impressive performances, Sesa Football Academy's dream run in the Goa Professional League was ultimately dashed by a loss to Geno Sports Club.
The team's strong showing, which culminated in a second-place finish out of 13 teams, had ignited fan expectations. Even with defending champions Dempo, FC Goa, Churchill Brothers FC, and the football powerhouse of Goa itself present in the league, many believed Sesa Football Club had a legitimate shot at the championship.
However, a closer look reveals vulnerabilities in Sesa's defense, particularly during the closing moments of matches. The loss to Geno Sports Club was a prime example, highlighting lapses in concentration and poor man-marking.
Head Coach Charles Dias attributed their success to a potent blend of youthful exuberance, unwavering determination, and a strong winning mentality. "The triumph in the Professional League not only showcased our talent but also underscored the potential to dominate the Indian footballing landscape," he reflects.
When asked about standout players, Dias emphasized the importance of a cohesive unit rather than individual brilliance. He highlighted the playing attitude and winning mentality instilled in the squad, crediting the collective effort of every player for their victory. "For me, players playing for the team is the ultimate success. If they achieve this mentality at an early age, they can pursue plenty," he said.
Behind every successful team lies a dedicated support system, and Coach Dias acknowledges the crucial role played by the technical staff, Melroy Moura (Head Admin), and operational support from Vedanta. "Their unwavering commitment to developing young talent has been instrumental in shaping the team's identity and fostering a culture of excellence." he attributed.
Reflecting on the challenges posed by physically strong and experienced teams, Sesa Football Academy's coach emphasizes the importance of meticulous preparation.
"Despite the team being a blend of youth and experience, we approached each match with a strong winning mentality, and that's the key," Dias stated.
"Our players consistently demonstrated the right attitude and meticulously executed the plans honed during training sessions," the Coach continued. "Our winning start to the season boosted the team's confidence, propelling us forward stronger in the league," he added.
"It's a testament to the technical staff and the team's attitude, both on and off the pitch, that enabled us to qualify from the challenging league and finish second in the table,"
Emphasizing the team's adaptability and understanding of their philosophy and style, the Coach notes, "We ensured the players comprehended our philosophy and style, making it easier for them to adapt. This flexibility allowed us to switch positions seamlessly, ensuring the team remained cohesive and effective on the field."
"By committing ourselves to the process day in and day out, we've proven that with patience, trust, and belief in ourselves, our players, and our team, any goal can be attained. "As we look ahead, our next goal is to work even harder in the upcoming season with these young talents, whom I consider my 'Rising Heroes,' as we strive to compete in the I-League 3," the coach explained.
However, Dias acknowledges the need for reinforcements. "We need to sign players that add value to the team. We need to understand that the level is different and think strategically at all times,"
This season has been encouraging for Dias, who not only worked his magic with Sesa Football Academy but also guided Goa to a runner-up finish in the National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy.
"I am very happy that we have done very well this season. We are looking forward to next year's season," Dias concluded.
