MARGAO: Ambelim SC booked a place in the quarter-finals of the All Goa Inter-Village Football Tournament after defeating CAC Cansaulim 4-3 via a tiebreaker at Seraulim Panchayat Ground. The tournament is organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim in memory of Late Rev Fr Joe Gomes. The two teams were locked in a 0-0 stalemate in regular time, necessitating a tiebreaker. Ambelim SC proved clinical from the spot, with Velroy Fernandes, Joshua Pinto, Dillon D’Souza, and Rehman Cardozo converting their chances. CAC Cansaulim’s scorers were Cidroy D’Souza, Jesus D’Sa, and Arron Fernandes. Captain Daniel D’Souza presented the Man of the Match award to Bleston Simoes of Ambelim SC.

Black Arrow Boys Agxem in final
MARGAO: Black Arrow Boys Agxem advanced to the finals of the Friends Circle Curtorim 7-a-side Inter Ward Football Tournament after a 5-3 tiebreaker victory over Padam Sports Club in the second semi-final at Raitollem Football Ground on Thursday. Padam SC opened the scoring through Elton Mascarenhas in the 14th minute, but Agxem equalised from a free-kick by Alroy Gomes. The first half ended 1-1. In the second half, Padam took the lead through Godwin Mascarenhas, only for Steven Fernandes to restore parity for Black Arrow Boys Agxem. The match went to penalties, where Agxem proved the superior shootout team. Agnelo Gomes, goalkeeper for Black Arrow Boys Agxem, saved two penalties and was named Man of the Match by Vishwas Gurav, Secretary of Wilred Leisure SC Curtorim. The final will be held on Sunday, February 1, between Novowaddo Sports Club and Black Arrow Boys Agxem.

Two Goans in India U19 women’s SAFF squad
MARGAO: Pearl Fernandes and Valiana Fernandes are among the 23-member Indian team that departed for Pokhara, Nepal, on Thursday to participate in the SAFF U19 Women’s Championship 2026, scheduled from January 31 to February 7. India will compete with its U17 squad, preparing for the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup in China later this year. The Young Tigresses had previously trained at a camp in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, before flying to Nepal. The four-team tournament will follow a round-robin format, with the top two teams contesting the final on February 7.
