St Anne's Institute win Canacona football title

St Anne's Institute won the U-17 Canacona taluka boys football tournament.

St Anne's Institute defeated Shree Balram Residential High School 3-1 via tiebreaker to emerge champions in the U-17 Canacona taluka boys football tournament organised by Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs at Karvem Sports Complex, Canacona recently.

Chandor rally to edge Navelim Sporting
Hosts Chandor SC scored a hard fought 2-1 win over Navelim Sporting Club to book their place in the finals of the 47th Chandor Seamen’s Rolling football tournament organised by Chandor Club at Chandor football ground on Saturday.

All the goals were scored in the second session. Navelim Sporting opened the scoring in the 54th minute through Rovan Pereira. Chandor SC attacked with vigour and scored two goals in quick succession. First Louie Noronha equalised in the 61st minute and then Victorino Fernandes scored the winning goal three minutes later.

Curtorim Gymkhana hammer Varca SC 7-0
Curtorim Gymkhana thumped Varca Sports Club 7-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the Fatima Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Dicarpale Sports Club at Dicarpale ground.

Curtorim Gymkhana dominated the entire match and scored at regular intervals. Dylan Lima excelled for Varca SC. Curtorim Gymkhana scored through Frazier Castanha, Veron Fernandes, Anthony Fernandes, Milagres Fernandes, Aliston Fernandes, Nalister and Nesly.

Fr Benjamin, Yigael win table tennis titles
Fr Benjamin Sacramafilia, Parish Priest of Seraulim, and Yigael Gomes emerged champions in the men's singles and ladies singles table tennis tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim at the club premises.

In the men's singles, Fr Benjamin fought hard to beat Sandeep Shanke 8-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9 in an exciting five-set match. In the ladies singles, Yigael Gomes got the better of Zorah D'Souza 11-6, 11-9, 11-8.

In the men's doubles, Sandeep Shanke, partnering his brother Sunil Shanke, beat Samuel and Ezekiel Gomes 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6. Fr Nixon Gomes was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Policarpo Cruz, president of the club, welcomed the guest and later gave a vote of thanks.

St Thomas HS reach DSYA football finals
St Thomas High School, Cansaulim routed Regina Mundi High School, Chicalim 5-0 to move into the finals of taluka level football tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at DSYA ground, Velsao.

In the 1st half, Sagar Naik dribbled past the defenders and scored for St Thomas High School in the 15th minute. Rio Rodrigues doubled the lead by heading the ball home in the 20th minute. Rio Rodrigues netted his second goal in the 22nd minute to make it 3-0.

In the 2nd half, Massaia D'Mello added his name to the scoresheet, making it 4-0 in the 43rd minute. Rio completed his hat-trick in the 50th minute, 5-0. St Thomas will meet Navy Children School, Chicalim in the finals on September 19.

Rodrigues elected president of SCC Cavelossim
Veteran club member Viano Rodrigues was elected as the new president of Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim as he defeated incumbent secretary Prince Pereira by 52-43 votes for the two-year term of 2022 to 2024.

In the other contests, Solomon (Sam) Mendes defeated Sheriff Jacques by 57 -37 votes for the post of the club chairman. Natividade Fernandes defeated Daryl Dias by a narrow margin of four votes to bag the vice-chairman's post while Viriato Mendes routed Oswin Mendes by 60-34 votes for the post of the general secretary.

On the occasion, SSC top rankers of 2021 and 2022 were honoured along with other selected personalities from the fields of sports, culture, education and social media.
