St. Anthony’s SC Assolda pulled off a dramatic comeback to edge past a spirited USD Club 4-3 via tie-breaker and secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the 19th Super Soccer Tournament, organized by United Club Benaulim at the St. John the Baptist grounds, Dando, Benaulim.
USD Club took the lead early and held on until the 37th minute, when Assolda midfielder Terrance Fernandes drew level with a composed finish that beat USD keeper Oswin Rodrigues.
Early in the second half, USD regained the advantage after Joaquin Carvalho conceded a penalty, which was confidently slotted home by Dylon Fernandes.
With the teams locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation time, the match went into a tense tie-breaker. Assolda held their nerve as Valentino Carvalho, Joaquin Carvalho, and Akarsh Yadav converted their spot-kicks, while Riston Gomes and Clayton Fernandes scored for USD.
Assolda’s goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues, who put in a strong performance throughout, was named Man of the Match by referees Subhash Xavier Pereira and Resrick Pereira.
