Union of Chinchinim Villagers booked their place in the semi-finals of the 3rd Fr. Bruno Leitao Memorial Inter-Village Football Tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ambelim SC in a closely contested quarterfinal.
The match started on a cautious note, with both teams creating early chances. In the 21st minute, Chinchinim’s goalkeeper denied Ambelim a scoring opportunity with a fine save. Just two minutes later, Ambelim’s custodian Benny responded with a crucial one-on-one save.
Chinchinim drew first blood in the 28th minute when Sherio Gomes calmly converted a penalty, giving them a 1-0 lead at halftime. Gomes doubled the advantage just three minutes into the second half, putting Chinchinim firmly in control.
Ambelim pulled one back in the 10th minute of the second half through an own goal by a Chinchinim defender, but despite late pressure, they couldn’t find the equalizer.
Sherio Gomes was named as man of the match and the award was presented by former MLA Benjamin Silva in the presence of Union of Chinchinim Villagers President.
