MARGAO: USC Seraulim edged past Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 8-7 in a dramatic sudden death tiebreaker to advance to the quarterfinals of the 14th Super Soccer Football Tournament, organised by UC Benaulim and played at the St. John de Baptista ground on Tuesday.
The match began cautiously, with both sides playing a measured game. Seraulim had the first real chance when winger Shashank Shanke unleashed a shot, only to be denied by DBO Fatorda goalkeeper Glen Fernandes. After the break, DBO Fatorda took control and nearly broke the deadlock, but defender Velito Miranda couldn’t connect with a high cross from Kalu.
With the match ending goalless in regulation time, the contest was decided via a tiebreaker. USC Seraulim held their nerve to convert eight penalties through Ashley Fernandes, Flosico Fernandes, Oliver D'Souza, Prexton Braganza, Keith Rodrigues, Mohin Sayed, Dickson Rogtao, and Nayab Khan.
For DBO Fatorda, successful scorers included Clive Miranda, Velito Miranda, Hanslum Furtado, Alfred Noronha, Vedley Barreto, Richie Vaz, and Kevin Araujo.
Ashley Fernandes of USC Seraulim was named Man of the match.
