Fr Angel’s High School, Pilar (Boys) and St Anthony’s High School, Monte de Guirim (Girls) emerged as champions in the U-14 Boys and Girls categories respectively at the 11-a-side Young Hockey Youth Cup, organized by Young Sports Hockey Club at the Hockey Ground, Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa.
In the boys' final, Fr Angel’s High School, Pilar clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over Janata High School, Panjim. The match was tightly contested, with both teams showcasing strong defensive skills to limit scoring opportunities.
In the girls' final, St Anthony’s High School, Monte de Guirim played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against St Anthony’s High School, Duler. The match was decided in sudden death, with Guirim winning 3-1 to secure the title.
The chief guest for the event was Aldona MLA, Advocate Carlos Alvares Ferreira, who distributed the prizes. In his address, he emphasized the importance of hockey as India's national game and encouraged students to work hard, remain disciplined, and stay dedicated. He also assured the organizers of his full support in promoting hockey across the state.
