In the sole match of the day, Sports and Welfare Club of Zaino, hailing from Velim, put on an impressive display of cricket to defeat a strong Eagles Club from Sankhali by 43 runs in the Karapurkar Trophy at the SAG Fatorda ground.

Zaino posted a total of 137/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Swapnish Satarkar was the top scorer for Zaino with a knock of 41 runs off 30 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six, while Sankalp Prabhu contributed with 28 runs. For the Eagles, Sahil Naik took 3 wickets, and Sagar Parsekar claimed 2 wickets, putting in solid bowling performances.

Chasing a target of 138, Eagles Club faltered against some tight bowling and brilliant fielding, including some superb catches. The turning point came when Vishal Gawde claimed a hat-trick, finishing with figures of 4 wickets for 23 runs. Sankalp Prabhu also contributed with 2 wickets as the Eagles were bowled out for just 94 runs in the 17th over. Swapnish Satarkar from SWC Zaino was named the Man of the Match for his 30-ball 41 (7 fours and 1 six).

OL Rosary HSS win tug of war tourney

PANAJI: Our Lady of the Rosary Higher Secondary School emerged as the State champions in the 2024-2025 tug of war tournament, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. The team was captained by Roopa Kavali while physical education teacher Chandrakant Raikar guided them.

GTBCA postpones selection trials

PANAJI: The Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association (GTBCA) has announced the postponement of all selection trials due to the rescheduling of the 30th Sub Junior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship. The national championship for boys and girls was originally slated for April 20-23 at Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. New dates for the selection trials will be communicated to the participants soon, the association said.
