PANAJI
Over 70 volleyball players, past and present, have registered for the Goa Women’s Volleyball Revival Day 2026, organised by Goa Masters Women Volleyball Association in collaboration with St Barbara Sports Club, Santa Cruz, on Saturday, May 23, from 4-7 pm.
According to the registration list, 11 senior citizens will be seen in action at Santa Barbara ground, Santa Cruz. They will be joined by 21 players, who are below the age group of 20, and 17 between the age group of 21-30, perfectly syncing with the inspiring theme of “From Legends to Future Stars”.
“There’s a good mix of players who have enrolled from school and college players, to working women and recreational players, many who are returning to the court after ages. Our aim is to unite the fraternity and take the sport forward. The sport is much loved, but there’s little being done on the ground,” said Goa Masters Women Volleyball Association president Betty D’Silva, who was part of the India probables for the 1982 Asian Games.
The 70 players will be divided into five or six teams, who will play each other in a round-robin league format with short matches designed to ensure that every participant gets an opportunity to play through unlimited substitutions and mandatory rotation.
Players who have still not registered and still want to take part can obtain more details from Milagrina Mascarenhas (South Goa, 7798808072), Betty D’Silva (Ponda, 9226313572), Melinda Pereira (Central Goa, 9921614113) and Samiksha Harmalkar Harji (North Goa, 9823896306).
Bina Naik, Betty D’Silva, Lumen Botelho and Conception Pereira will all be felicitated for their contribution to the sport.
