The 38th National Under-13 Open and Girls Chess Championship 2025, one of India’s most prestigious youth chess tournaments, was officially inaugurated on Wednesday at Daivadnya Bhavan, Margao. The championship has drawn top young talent from across the country, all vying for national glory.
In the Open Section, top-seeded Siddhanth Poonja of Karnataka (rating 2215) began his campaign on Board 1 against Kaveesh Kagwade of Maharashtra (rating 1603), in a matchup that attracted considerable attention from the crowd.
In the Girls Section, top-seeded Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Aamuktha Guntaka from West Bengal (rating 2102) faced Adya Gupta from Delhi (rating 1464) on Board 1, in what turned out to be another gripping encounter.
The event is being conducted under the supervision of Chief Arbiter IA Jismon Mathew from Kerala, who also led the technical meeting ahead of the matches to ensure smooth conduct of the tournament.
