MARGAO: Hosts Agxem Sports Club booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 3rd Caniza Peixoto Memorial 9-a-Side Football Tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fondegal Youth Club at the St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim, on Tuesday.
Agxem's Savio Gomes squandered a golden chance when he found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, while at the other end, Fondegal's Ruben Fernandes saw his effort brilliantly punched away for a corner by Agxem goalkeeper Agnelo Gomes. The teams went into the break locked at 0-0.
The decisive moment came in the 47th minute when Savio Peixoto delivered a well-timed pass to an unmarked Frazier Castanha, who calmly slotted home the winner to send the hosts into the last eight.
Frazier Castanha was named Man of the Match and received the award from Agxem Sports Club vice-president Franky Gomes.
