Baale BPS Open 2024 Gets underway in Margao

The debut edition of the Baale BPS Open 2024, an all-Goa ranking tennis tournament, got underway at the prestigious B.P.S Sports Club in Margao.

The tournament, the latest on the state’s annual tennis calendar and one that has received a record 215 entries, was inaugurated by Pradeep Da Costa, managing director, Verna-based Astra Metal Systems Ltd.

On the opening day of the tournament, Siddharth Sikand and Dmitry reached the semifinals of the men’s 45+ singles category, defeating Kishor Metry and Rajesh 6-2 and 6-0 respectively in the quarter finals. Earlier in the matches contested in the same category, Sikand had defeated Laxman 6-4, while Dmitry defeated Wilfred 6-0. In other matches, Savio beat Ninaad 6-0, Kishor beat Vinod 6-2, Venctexa beat Anup 6-3, Caetano beat Bhaskar 6-0, Rajesh beat Valinton 6-0 and Caetano beat Savio (6-2).

Supported by Baale Resort Goa, and organised by the B.P.S Sports Club, Margao, in association with the Goa State Tennis Association, the inaugural edition of the Baale BPS Open 2024 will feature a debut category involving matches for boys and girls under the age of 10 years.

“It is really heartening to see the enthusiasm the children today have towards sports like tennis. Thanks to the president and the managing committee of B.P.S. Sports Club for their efforts in promoting tennis,” said Pradeep Da Costa at the inauguration ceremony, while wishing the participants with luck for the tournament ahead. The tournament has attracted a significant number of entries to contest in various below 18 age categories.

“The tournament has witnessed such an overwhelming response and I am immensely proud of the dedication and passion the players have shown. We, at B.P.S Sports Club, are committed to providing a platform for young talent to showcase their skills. Looking forward to an exciting tournament ahead,” said Yogiraj Kamat, president, B.P.S Sports Club.
