SANGUEM
In yet another burglary, a silver ornament weighing about 7 kgs was reportedly stolen when thieves struck the Vithal Mandir at Sanguem in the wee hours of Saturday.
The CCTV footage inside the temple premises has captured two individuals taking a silver ornament, although their identities remain unconfirmed.
At approximately 1.30 am, the burglars infiltrated the temple, scouring for valuable items. Despite their search yielding little, they ultimately made off with a 7 kg silver ornament.
Dattaprasad Sanguemkar, a local residing near the temple, woke up from his home upon hearing commotion outside. He reportedly witnessed the duo fleeing with an object, though he couldn't discern its nature.
It was only when Sanguemkar along with other committee members entered the temple premises that they noticed the ornament missing.
A complaint was later lodged at Sanguem police station, prompting an investigation into the matter and a search for the perpetrators.
It may be recalled that four persons had stolen cash of about Rs 10-12 lakh from the Shri Dev Bodgeshwar temple in Mapusa, after confronting and tying the security guard. The accused were later arrested in Khopoli-Maharashtra.
