Baale BPS Open 2024 set to begin today

The debut edition of the Baale BPS Open 2024, an all-Goa ranking tennis tournament which has seen a record 215 registered entries, will roll out over nine days from April 27.

Supported by the Baale Resort Goa, Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA) and organised by the prestigious B.P.S Sports Club in Margao – named after first Goan Governor Bernardo Peres Da Silva – the tournament is symbolic of the uptick of interest in the sport of tennis in Goa, with the tournament also featuring a new player category, the u-10 boys and girls event.

“Baale BPS Open 2024 promises to be an exciting showcase of tennis talent in Goa. We are proud to support such initiatives that promote sportsmanship and healthy competition among players of all ages. We wish all participants the best of luck and look forward to an exciting and competitive tournament,” says Ashwin Chandiok, founder of Baale Resort Goa.

In the tournament’s open category, 12 participants have registered for the under-10 category, including nine boys and three girls. For the under-14 category, 33 participants have registered, with 23 boys and 10 girls signing up for the event. In the under-18 category, there are 22 boys and seven girls who have registered. 17 pairs have registered for the mixed doubles category, while 25 pairs have registered for the men’s doubles event. 14 female tennis players and 49 male tennis players have registered in the ladies and men’s singles’ categories respectively.

In the veterans’ segment, 15 registrations have been received for the veterans 45+ singles category, while eight pairs have registered for the veteran’s 45+ doubles category. Nine players have signed up for the veterans 55+ singles event and four teams for the veterans 55+ doubles event.

Intense competition is expected during the nine days of Baale BPS Open 2024, scheduled to be held from April 27 to May 5, as the competing players would vie to better their state ranking.
