CRC Chinchinim defeated St. Anthony Assolda 3–0 to storm into the semifinals of the United Trophy Football Tournament, organised by United Club of Telaulim, at the Rosary Church Ground, Navelim on Wednesday.
CRC Chinchinim made an early breakthrough in the 2nd minute when Aston Fernandes unleashed a powerful left-footer from the edge of the box that beat goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues. St. Anthony Assolda tried to respond, but Preston Castanha’s attempt was well blocked by CRC Chinchinim goalkeeper Sunny.
Shario Gomes then doubled the lead for Chinchinim in the 11th minute. As the first half drew to a close, Assolda came close to scoring, but Velentino Carvalho’s header off a corner kick narrowly missed the target. Chinchinim led 2–0 at halftime.
In the second half, St. Anthony Assolda pressed hard in search of a goal but failed to find the net. CRC Chinchinim sealed the match when Aston Fernandes struck again to complete his brace, extending the lead to 3–0.
Aston Fernandes of CRC Chinchinim was named Player of the Match, with the award presented by Jules Themudo.
