FC Goa beat Geno FC in dramatic comeback

FC Goa secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Geno FC in their GPL Super League clash, scoring twice late in the game to overturn a first-half deficit and claim all three points.

Coming into the match with momentum after qualifying for the National Championship Stage of the Reliance Foundation League, FC Goa dominated the early exchanges. Asher Rodrigues and his teammates repeatedly tested a resolute Geno defence, with goalkeeper Akshat Hadkonkar producing a composed save to deny Rodrigues.

Despite FC Goa’s control, Geno FC took the lead just before the break. Vasim Inamdar struck against the run of play to make it 1-0, giving the hosts an unlikely advantage at half-time.

FC Goa resumed with intent in the second half. Around the hour mark, Shawn Fernandes found space inside the box but saw his effort drift narrowly wide. Geno remained a threat on the counter, with Sankalp Kankonkar forcing a sharp save from Lionel Rymmei and sending another header over the bar.

With ten minutes remaining, FC Goa finally found their breakthrough. A ball into the box fell kindly to Malsawmtluanga, who reacted quickest to slot home the equaliser.

The visitors continued to press, and their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time. Substitute Freden Mendes set up Shawn Fernandes, who produced a composed finish from mid-range to seal a dramatic comeback.
