Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda secured a place in the final of the 52nd Custodio Memorial Football Tournament after defeating Calangute Association 4-1 in the second semifinal at Raia Panchayat Ground on Sunday. The match saw a dominant performance by Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda, with Sowell Fernandes scoring a brace in the 25th and 31st minutes, followed by Melson Fernandes who netted two goals in the 56th and 70th minutes. Calangute Association’s lone goal came from Carlos D’Souza in the 50th minute, but it wasn’t enough to challenge the Paroda side. Sowell Fernandes was named the Man of the Match for his impactful performance, with the award presented by Lyndon Pereira, the former chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council. Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda will now face St Anthony Assolda in the final of the tournament, organised by Raia Sporting Club.
Novowaddo SC clinch semifinal spot
MARGAO: Novowaddo Sports Club secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Agxem Sports Club to book their place in the semifinals of the 2nd Caniza Peixoto Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Black Arrow Boys, Agxem. The match was held at the St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim, on Sunday. The only goal of the match came in the 12th minute, when Anthony of Novowaddo found the back of the net, effectively sealing Agxem’s fate and ensuring his team’s progress to the next stage. Ryan Fernandes of Novowaddo was named the Man of the Match for his impressive performance, with the award presented by Brigida Martins.
OL Perpetual Succour HS triumph
PANAJI: Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, Cortalim, emerged as the champions of the Girls U-17 Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament after defeating Regina Mundi High School in the final held at Rose Circle Ground, Sada. The match, which saw intense competition between the two teams, concluded with Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School securing the victory. The team’s strong performance throughout the competition culminated in their triumph in the final.
Manovikas win U-14 Salcete chess title
MARGAO: Manovikas School, Margao, emerged champions in the U-14 girls Salcete taluka chess tournament at Fatorda Stadium hall. Saachi Kunkolienkar, Diya Naik, Diya Sawal, Lyia Silveira and Srisakshi Shet represented Manovikas School.
