IM Marcin wins gold at World IPCA rapid chess

Top finishers IM Molenda Marcin, Ayapov Alimzham and FM Valenta Vit Vaclav are presented with medals.

PANAJI
International Master (IM) Molenda Marcin of Poland claimed the gold medal in the open category at the 24th World IPCA Rapid Chess Championship 2025, held at the International Centre in Goa.

Marcin dominated the Rapid section, scoring an impressive 8 points out of 9 rounds, finishing one point ahead of Ayapov Alimzhan of Kazakhstan, who secured the silver medal with 7 points. FM Valenta Vit Vaclav of the Czech Republic also finished on 7 points but was awarded the bronze.

In the women's category, Poland's Leszner Liliana took home the gold, while Russia's Zakharova Evgeniya and Mongolia's Khishigbayar Mijgee won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In the wheelchair categories, Russia’s IM Obodchuk Andrei triumphed in the Men's category, followed by India’s Vaibhav Gautam (silver) and Russia's Alekseev Mikhail (bronze). In the Women’s wheelchair section, India's Dirkasri M claimed the gold, while compatriot Sharon Aby won silver and Vietnam’s Tran Thi Bich Thuy took home the bronze.

Medals were also awarded in the Under-20 and Under-15 boys' and girls' categories, with India securing a total of 9 medals from the 24 medals presented.

The competition continues with the standard section, following a rest day.
