Goa's Jonathan D’Souza joins elite panel at SAFF Match Commissioners Conference in Kathmandu

Vice President of the Goa Football Association (GFA) – North Goa and Head of Operations at FC Goa Jonathan D’Souza who achieved the significant milestone of becoming the first Goan to be appointed as an AFC Match Commissioner, is currently attending the First South Asia Match Commissioners Conference and Workshop, which is a two-day event organized by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), in Kathmandu.

The landmark conference, supported by SAFF, brings together both current and aspiring match commissioners from across South Asia. It serves as a platform to exchange ideas, share experiences, and discuss evolving trends in football management and match operations.

The seminar aims to improve expertise, promote collaboration, and enhance the overall quality and professionalism of football in the region. Participants are discussing the pivotal role of match commissioners in organizing smooth and hazard-free matches at the highest level.

Dr. Caitano Fernandes, President of the Goa Football Association, hailed Jonathan's achievement, saying, “He is the rock star of Goan football now – a proud moment for all of us.”

Mauricio Afonso, former India captain and ex-coach of Dempo SC, highlighted the importance of the role, “Being a match commissioner comes with great responsibility. It motivates professionals like Jonathan to deliver the best in every assignment.”

Anthony Pango, Senior Vice President of the GFA and a colleague of Jonathan, praised the appointment, saying, “Match commissioners are essential to the development of football in South Asia. Jonathan’s contribution will ensure matches are conducted to the highest standards, while promoting fair play. Congratulations to him on this well-deserved feat.”

Derrick Pereira, former India U-23 coach and international defender, also lauded Jonathan, “He is a true football fanatic and continues to achieve his goals at every level of the game. Congratulations!”

Adlear D’Cruz, General Secretary of the GFA, added: “It is a proud moment for Goa. Jonathan has made a name for himself at the SAFF Match Commissioners Conference. We wish him continued success.”

Lector Mascarenhas, General Secretary of Dempo SC, emphasized the inspirational aspect of Jonathan’s journey: “Every time a Goan does well, it brings joy. Jonathan’s achievement, born of hard work and passion, should inspire youngsters in Goa to explore refereeing and match officiating as serious career options.”

Joe Dias, former President of Salcete Football, also extended his congratulations, “A remarkable milestone for Jonathan D’Souza. We are proud of his success.”

Jonathan’s appointment marks a new chapter for Goan football, reinforcing its growing influence on the national and international stage.
