MARGAO: Guardian Angel SC booked their spot in the final with a dramatic 5-4 win on penalties over United Club of Nerul in a nail-biting semifinal of the Benaulim Panchayat Cup held at the St John the Baptist Ground.
The first half saw plenty of action but remained goalless, with both defences holding firm.
The deadlock was broken early in the second half when Aniket Naik converted a penalty for Nerul following a handball in the box. However, Guardian Angel SC responded as Cyril Dias struck a well-timed equaliser in the 45th minute.
With the match ending 1-1 in regulation time, the contest moved into a penalty shootout. Cyril Dias emerged as the hero, not only scoring but also saving two penalties, sealing a memorable win. They now advance to face Sporting Club in the final this Sunday.
