In a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening hockey development across the country, Hockey India has announced a Special Grant Assistance of ₹25 lakh for each eligible State Member Unit.
The decision, described as a first in the organization's history, was communicated through a circular issued by Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh. The grant is intended to support the promotion of hockey at the state level, facilitate the organization of state championships, and assist member units in participating in Hockey India National Championships.
According to the circular, the proposal was approved during the 15th Hockey India Congress, held on July 27, 2025. The financial assistance is subject to the submission and verification of prescribed financial documents by the respective state associations.
To qualify for the grant, State Member Units must submit key financial records relating to the financial year 2025–26 by June 30, 2026. These include an audited balance sheet, income and expenditure statement, certified auditor's report, approved Annual General Meeting (AGM) minutes, and details of expenditure incurred on player travel for participation in Hockey India National Championships.
Hockey India emphasized that State Member Units have played a crucial role in nurturing talent and promoting the sport at grassroots and state levels. The organization stated that the grant is intended to recognize these contributions and further strengthen the country's hockey ecosystem.
All required documents are to be submitted electronically to Hockey India officials for verification and processing. The federation has urged member units to ensure timely compliance to avoid delays in the release of funds.
Sports administrators have welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a significant step toward enhancing infrastructure, supporting athletes, and encouraging broader participation in hockey across India.
