MARGAO
Goan striker Karishma Shirvoikar is firmly focused on making her mark at the upcoming AFC Women's Asian Cup, as the Indian women’s national team intensifies preparations for the continental showpiece.
Having already represented India in three international friendlies this year, the Odxel-born forward now stands on the brink of one of the biggest tournaments of her career. For Karishma, the Asian Cup is not just another competition — it is an opportunity to showcase her growth, determination, and commitment on Asia’s grandest stage.
The Blue Tigresses have arrived early at their training base in Australia to acclimatize and fine-tune their strategies ahead of the tournament. Under head coach Amelia Villarreal, the squad has been working rigorously on tactical discipline, match fitness, and team cohesion.
“Our first match is on March 4, and all our focus is on that. We are taking it one game at a time. If we win the opener, our confidence will grow and that momentum will carry forward,” Karishma said.
The striker, known for her pace and sharp finishing, believes the squad’s unity and preparation will be key to success. She added that the atmosphere within the camp is positive, with players fully aware of the responsibility of representing the nation at a prestigious tournament like the Asian Cup.
Anthony Pango, Senior Vice President of the Goa Football Association, extended his best wishes to Karishma, saying, “We are extremely proud of Karishma and her journey so far. We hope she continues to perform brilliantly and plays a crucial role in India’s victories at the Asian Cup. Her success will inspire young footballers in Goa to dream big and work hard.”
For Karishma, wearing the national jersey is about more than individual achievement. It is about carrying the hopes of Goa and inspiring the next generation of footballers back home.
“Representing India is a proud moment. It’s not just about playing for a team; it’s about representing your region and the dreams of so many young players,” she said.
As the countdown to kickoff begins, Karishma Shirvoikar’s focus remains unwavering — deliver strong performances, contribute to the team’s success, and help India make a significant impact at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
