MARGAO: Navelim Sporting Club got the better of United Boys of Ambaulim 4–1 via a tie-breaker to book their place in the finals of the 16th Davorlim Cup football tournament, organized by Sporting Club Davorlim, at the Panchayat ground, Davorlim, on Saturday.
Both teams fought hard throughout regulation time, creating several chances but failing to break the deadlock as the match ended in a goalless draw at the final whistle.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Navelim Sporting Club held their composure to seal the victory. Sweden Costa, Aden Pereira, Sam Pereira and Maevan Fonceca successfully converted their spot-kicks for Navelim, while Savlon Fernandes scored the lone goal for United Boys of Ambaulim.
Despite his team’s defeat, Jesvan Fernandes of United Boys of Ambaulim was adjudged Man of the Match. The award was presented by Francisco Dias, former Sarpanch and present Panch of VP Davorlim.
