Nuvem Veterans were crowned champions of the 1st Carmel Inter-Village Veterans Football Tournament after defeating Betalbatim Veterans 4–3 in a penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in regulation time, at the St. Alex Church ground, Curtorim on Thursday.
Both teams displayed determination and relied on short, quick passes throughout the final. Nuvem Veterans created the first clear chance when Niclau Colaco’s strike from inside the box was punched away by Betalbatim goalkeeper Milton. Betalbatim almost took the lead soon after, but Roque Pereira narrowly missed the target in what was a golden opportunity.
With neither side able to break the deadlock, the match headed into a penalty shootout.
In the decisive tie-breaker, Nuvem scored through Marcus Carvalho, Agnelo Colaco, Joaquim Rodrigues and Silvano Mendes. Betalbatim converted via Roque Pereira, Alison Rogtao and Francisco Rodrigues.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco was the chief guest and distributed the prizes in the presence of Fr. Milagres Dias, chaplain of Carmel Chapel, Glen Cardoso and other club officials.
