MARGAO
SC Davorlim overcame a slow start to defeat Navelim Villagers Union 2-0 in their Super Soccer quarterfinal clash at Benaulim.
The first half was a cautious affair, with both teams battling in midfield and reluctant to concede. Navelim’s best chance came from Rehan Sayyed, whose effort was comfortably saved by the Davorlim goalkeeper.
After the break, Davorlim raised their intensity. Midfield maestros Alent Colaco and William Niasso took control of the game, while Ajay’s wing play kept Navelim pinned back. Melchior Miranda broke the deadlock with a goal in the 49th minute, forcing Navelim to chase the game. The visitors’ hopes faded further when Colaco doubled the lead in the 60th minute.
Defender Sanju Trikoni put in a solid defensive performance, denying any comeback from Navelim. Davorlim’s professional display earned them a confident place in the semifinals.
Melchior Miranda was named Man of the Match for his outstanding contribution, receiving the trophy from Rini Mascarenhas.
