Shree Damodar Vidyalaya High School emerged champions of the South Zone in the Under-14 President’s Cup cricket tournament organised by the Goa Cricket Association, after registering a convincing eight-wicket victory over St. Joseph High School, Mormugao. The match was played at the MCC Ground in Margao on Saturday.
Batting first, St. Joseph High School were bowled out for 124 runs in 24.3 overs. Gandhik Satardekar top-scored with 27 runs, while Aarav Kerkar contributed 16. However, the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals, preventing them from building a strong total. Extras also played a role in pushing their score to 124.
Shree Damodar’s bowlers delivered an excellent performance, with Mohammad Ehtesham leading the attack. He claimed five wickets including a Hattrick. He gave away just 12 runs in 4.3 overs, turning the game decisively in his team’s favor. He was well supported by Abhisek Lamani and Captain Rumaan Mulam who picked up two wickets each.
In reply, Shree Damodar Vidyalaya chased down the target comfortably, scoring 128 for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. Usman Ghani (30) and Abhiyan (15) provided a solid start, setting the foundation for the chase. Captain Rumaan Mulam remained unbeaten on 39, while Mohammad Ehtesham capped off a fine all-round performance with an unbeaten 37. The duo stitched an unbroken partnership for the third wicket to guide their team to victory. For losing team Pranav took two wickets.
Overall, a strong all-round display with both bat and ball helped Shree Damodar Vidyalaya dominate the contest and secure the title in style.
