MARGAO: Wilred Leisure SC Curtorim stunned United Boys of Ambaulim with a 2-1 victory to book their place in the final of the 18th All Goa Inter-Village Seraulim Panchayat Cup Football Tournament, played at the Seraulim Panchayat Ground.
Curtorim drew first blood through Anselim Fernandes, who produced a brilliant solo run before calmly slotting the ball past the Ambaulim goalkeeper. However, the lead was short-lived as Ambaulim responded almost immediately. Just two minutes later, Alex Fernandes surged down the right flank and unleashed a powerful strike into the far corner, leaving the Curtorim keeper with no chance. The teams went into the break level at 1-1.
In the second half, Curtorim regained the advantage with Anselim Fernandes once again making the difference. The striker used his pace to beat the Ambaulim defence and finished in style to complete his brace and put his side ahead 2-1.
Ambaulim pushed hard in search of an equaliser, but Curtorim’s defence and goalkeeper held firm under pressure. Despite creating chances, Ambaulim’s forwards failed to capitalise, ultimately leading to their exit from the tournament.
For his match-winning brace, Anselim Fernandes was deservedly named Man of the Match.
