MARGAO: United Boys of Ambaulim defeated Guardian Angel SC, Curchorem 2–0 to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the 3rd Late Uday Shirodkar Memorial Intervillage Football Tournament, organized by Shiroda Youth Club and played at Subhash Chandra Bose Sports Complex, Karai Shiroda, on Friday.
The match was a contest between neighbouring villages, with both teams eager to find the back of the net. United Boys Ambaulim, however, proved clinical, scoring one goal in each half. Jesvon Fernandes opened the scoring in the 24th minute, followed by Sowell Fernandes in the 38th minute.
Guardian Angel SC tried hard to respond, with goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues producing some spectacular saves, but they could not breach the Ambaulim defence.
Jesvon Fernandes of United Boys Ambaulim was awarded Man of the Match by Alex Silveira for his match-winning performance.
