UC Verna produced a determined comeback to defeat SC Davorlim 6-5 via tie-breaker after a 1-1 draw, securing a place in the quarterfinals of the Late Franco Gouveia Memorial Trophy at the DSYA Ground.
SC Davorlim controlled the early stages, with Veliston and Ajay Raj orchestrating play in midfield. Their dominance was rewarded when Milton Colaco scored to give Davorlim a deserved lead heading into halftime.
After the break, Verna came out with renewed energy as Jesloy Muniz and Clifton Rebello took charge, driving the team forward in search of an equaliser. Their persistence paid off in the 51st minute when Nevil Menezes found the net to level the score.
With no further goals in regulation time, the match moved into a tie-breaker. UC Verna held their composure from the spot to clinch a 6-5 victory.
Despite ending on the losing side, Belito Colaco of S.C. Davorlim was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by Suzy Fernandes, former sarpanch and current panch of Village Panchayat Colva.
