
Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai releases the school magazine in the presence of PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral, Vicar General of the Society of Pilar Fr Steevan D’Souza, Chairman of Xaverian Educational Society Fr Mateus Fernandes and others.
Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai has described Konkani as one of the beautiful languages in India which is not confined only in Goa but is spoken in Karnataka, Maharashtra and even in his native state of Kerala.
He was addressing students, parents and the staff of Guardian Angel Higher Secondary School, Curchorem on the occasion of launching a ceremony of stepping towards the golden jubilee of establishment of their institution.
He lauded the institution for its achievements over the last several years which benefitted thousands of students.
"Konkani is one of the beautiful languages in India and it is not confined only in Goa but in Karnataka, Maharashtra and even in my native state of Kerala, it is the mother tongue of more than two lakh people,” said Pillai.
“As Chancellor of Goa University, I suggested that universities of Cochin and Mangalore could introduce Konkani as a course and they have accepted it in principle.”
He also lauded the efforts of the Pilar Society in establishing Xaverian Education Society to promote education in remote parts of Goa.
"The Christian missionaries have contributed immensely in the field of education. They prepared dozens of dictionaries, including in my own original Malayalam language, besides encyclopedias and grammar books," stated Pillai.
Guest of Honour and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral advised the students to respect and obey their parents and teachers.
“Work hard, value time and innovate new ideas for the progress of the nation, as the world is changing rapidly,” Cabral told the students.
Retired teachers Martin Barbosa and Suneela Phadke as well as some toppers of the institution at the Goa Board examination were felicitated on the occasion.
The school magazine “The Guardian” and a specially designed 50 years logo were released by the governor in the presence of Cabral and Vicar General of the Society of Pilar Fr Steevan D’Souza, Chairman of Xaverian Educational Society Fr Mateus Fernandes, Principal Fr Walter Miranda, Manager Fr Jerry Vaz and Parish Priest of Guardian Angel church, Curchorem Fr Vital Miranda.
Later students presented various cultural programmes like Goan Folk dances, English and Konkani play, western dances and innovative items.
