CAMPUS | Students urged to stay away from drugs

Valpoi: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), North Goa, in collaboration with Shri Bhumika Higher Secondary School, Poriem–Sattari, organised a 30-day awareness campaign on the ill-effects of substance abuse. The programme was aimed at educating students on the importance of leading a substance-free life and creating awareness about laws related to substance abuse.  

Addressing the students, Advocate Rajan Sawaikar, panel lawyer and trained mediator, spoke about the serious physical and mental health effects of substance abuse. He also highlighted its negative impact on academic performance, families and society. Sawaikar explained the legal provisions related to substance abuse and warned students about the consequences of getting involved in such activities, urging them to make positive life choices.  

PSI Prathamesh Gawas from the Valpoi Police Station spoke on the social, mental and moral harm caused by substance abuse among youth. He encouraged students to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the police.  

The session was interactive, allowing students to ask questions and clarify doubts. Students also took a pledge to stay away from substance abuse and adopt a safe and disciplined lifestyle.  

The programme was coordinated by Meenal Talavnekar, Coordinator, Sattari Taluka Legal Services Committee, along with other officials.
