Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Monday said that burning issue of parking plaguing the city has not been resolved till date as the Margao Municipal Council has till date not put to use the Rs three crore golden jubilee grant sanctioned to the civic body.

He further said that the multi-level parking lot proposed at the pick-up stand has also not materialized till date even though he had got the PDA land developed with basic office and toilet amenities for the pick-up owners and drivers.

“We had identified two places at the Old Fish Market and the pick-up stand to build the multi-level parking lots. As far as the Old Fish Market is concerned, my government had sanctioned Rs three crore to the Margao civic body to create an asset for the city. Though the civic body had proposed a multi-level parking, the project is yet to take shape till date,” he said.

Kamat recalled that the government had developed the PDA land for a pick-up stand with basic amenities, but lamented that the shifting of the existing pick up stand has not taken place till date.

The Margao MLA was briefing the media after launching hot-mixing works on the station road, besides the Gandhi market road. He said the hot-mixing work will not only provide a good motorable road, but will ensure parking along the Gandhi market stretch.

On Sunday, MMC had launched construction of nullah works at Azad Nagar, Kharelem Mand behind the ESI hospital. He said all

the works will be completed before the onset of the monsoon season.
